Poor kitty

While out on my lunch break, I saw a scraggly little wild kitty over by the Arby's. Being the soft touch I am, I bought her a roast beef sandwich. She wouldn't get more than two armslengths from me. If she had, I would have taken her home. Poor little kitty. At least she got a good meal out of it. I hope she finds a home soon.

One of "those" days

Woke up late, because I was dreaming it was the weekend, and thus the alarm clock was to be ignored.

Prestart car, shower and dress in the 15 minutes I have to get ready.

Walk out the door carrying my purse, book, and a soda. Promptly drop the soda while trying to shut the door. Soda explodes, all over my pants, shoes, and purse.

Step back in, grab the first pair of black pants I see, and change.

Get into car and start heading to work. Realize halfway to work that my black pants are actually brown, and thus don't match the electric blue and black shirt I'm wearing.

So. My cousin died in a car crash on Friday. Went to his viewing yesterday, and his funeral today. The preacherman didn't know Cousin at all, so instead of doing his research and talking about his life, he decides to try to convert us. I still don't know why Jesus' temptation on the mountain had to do with Cousin's life, or death. At least being pissed at Preacherman helped me get through the service without crying, but I doubt that was his motivation.

So. My husband's best friend committed suicide on Sunday. We spent Sunday night with his wife and other extraneous family members. The viewing is going to be tomorrow, and the funeral on Thursday. I have been elected to plan the wake, which hopefully will be on Friday, but nothing is set in stone yet.

Let's add this up.
Friday- dead cousin
Sunday- dead friend
Monday- Cousin viewing
Tuesday- cousin funeral
Wednesday- friend viewing
Thursday- friend funeral
Friday- Friend wake (hopefully)

No one else can die; my schedule's full!

Work

I just don't understand why people don't listen. They ask me for help because they don't know what they are doing, and I tell them exactly what to do. And yet, somehow, they do not think that listening to what I tell them is an important part of making sure they know what to do.

Add to that, but my coworker cannot seem to make it in on time. Perhaps 10 minutes shouldn't be that big a deal, but when it is EVERY DAY that I have to open the office and field calls and questions by myself until she comes in, well it pisses me off. Add to that the fact that she lives in town while I live a half hour away, I don't see any excuse to be habitually late.

Yeah, it's not even 9 am and I already can tell how this day is going.

When I was a child, I was delighted by the celestial body that filled the night sky. I even called it "my moon". I grew out of that phase (mostly), but I still look up at our nearest neighbor with wonder. And to think that mankind has made the inventions necessary to reach the moon... it leaves me speechless. As Neil said forty years ago, "It's one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind". And yet.

And yet we still do not have equal rights for everyone. And yet we still make war. And yet people still kill and die in the name of God. And yet we still do not have health care available to everyone. And yet people still die of hunger. And yet.

And yet what can we do about it? The first thing we need to do is care. We need to care about the fact that millions of people (my self included) are obese while millions more don't get enough to eat. We must care about the fact that the hollywood pretties-of-the-day are on their third marriage, and yet gays don't have the right to marry. We must care about the fact that some people can get a boob job and yet others can't go to the doctor to check out the suspicious lump they found because they don't have health insurance.

We are a race that has reached out and touched the stars, or at least the moon. Why can we not reach out and touch those that live on the same planet?

So happy 40th birthday, Apollo 11. I only wish we could have lived up to all you promised.

A challenge

I have accepted a challenge to write something for a friend to post on her blog. (Said challenge being about writing for a deadline). Said deadline is July 5th.

So, which short story would you rather read?

Option A) Dark faerie tale about a woman haunted by her past.

Option B) Science fiction-esqe story about friendship, with an unexpected love story twist.

1: House is 90% unpacked. Everything that we haven't gone through yet has be relegated to one storage room. Kitchen, livingroom, and diningrooms are completely done; about one box left for our room; Timtim is doing his own thing and I am only trying to keep up with the mountain of laundry that he randomly produces just when I think I am done with it all.

2: Diablo II has eaten my soul. I have to wait for water to boil? I play D2. Bad day? I come home and play D2. I am becoming a computer gamer *shudder*

3. Bas and I are going on vacation next week. We didn't take a honeymoon when we got married, so this is it. We leave Wednesday and come back Monday or Tuesday the week after. I almost put "if we come back...", but the house is a pretty big anchor.

That is all!

i have been corrupted!

I have been corrupted! Wait, is that even possible??? This is how it happened.

The sun was shining, the movie was spectacular, and something was wrong. The guys are plotting something. Something that involved asking me if they could drill a hole in the closet so they could pass some mystical item known as an ethernet cord through. I give them my best "Seriosly? Do I wan't to know?" look, and remind them that they don't know where the electrical lines run through the walls.

They think things through, and then back asking if they can put their computers on my diningroom table. The same diningroom table that hasn't been cleared off since we moved in. Well, at least they aren't drilling any holes through walls. I continue knitting, and watching young Harry learn how to use his magical powers, when I am interrupted a third time. There is no outlet on the wall that the table is currently against, so can they move it to the other wall? blink.

Finally, they have the table set where they need it, with no need for holes to be drilled in walls, and Harry and friends are facing down the challenges and all I could hear in the background was "F*cking fire resistance! Hey, Tim, I grabbed something for ya!" I made my way into the diningroom to see two computers set up on my newly cleared diningroom table (the fact that the object on that table are now on the floor is another story), and two guys deep in concentration as little figures and pretty colors dance across the screen. I try to get their attention, but am unsuccessful, so I go back to my movie. At the end of the second full length feature presentation, I get them to quit playing for long enough to come have a cigarette with me. My ears are filled with technical jargon about manna and attack percentages and nightmare versus hell levels and then I ask the dangerous question, the question I should have known better:

Can I play?

And that is how I came to spend two hours in front of a computer last night playing Diablo II, and only went to be with some reluctance. I know I will be playing tonight as well, as I only need 531 experience before I level up.

I am doomed.

The Kindness of Strangers

I got in a car wreck today on my lunch break as I was sitting at a red light. Don't worry, I'm fine. A car hit a car which hit a truck which hit me and the van next to him. No one was seriously injured, thankfully.

After all the dust settled, I pulled into Arby's for some comfort food. The workers had seen the wreck and asked what had happened and if I was injured. They then gave me my meal for free. This was a silver lining in the storm clouds of my day, and I am very thankful to them.

Packing

Moving is never a happy thing to do, but it is a necessary thing. One way or another, we will be out of this apartment at the end of April. SO in order to have all our crap ready for moving, we need to pack it. Which is what I started doing last night. I finished six boxes last night. I'm starting out with the extra glasses and dishes we don't use often, the blender, and a box full of teas that we don't drink often. Basil helped by emptying four bottles of bourbon that only had a shot or two left in each of them. Aren't I a good wife?

I also went down to the liquor store and they gave me a lot of boxes. That will be a good start tonight. My goal is to get five boxes packed each night, which I have the boxes for, but I'll need more tape, and maybe some more markers. I heard a tip on packing where you color code each room and add a corresponding sticker on the boxes that go in that room. I'm considering that, but it seems like a bit much. I don't know, perhaps it would work, especially on the boxes that don't have a lot of writing space on the top of them.

Tonight, I'm going to start packing up bathroom stuff that we won't need over the next month (extra soap and shampoos), and books that we know we won't read. Wish me luck

Dear clients,
You do not need me help on every fucking little thing that you are doing here. I shouldn't have to tell you to hit next when you finish a page, and when I tell you to put in the date just like the example, I mean it! If the example shows dd/mm/yyyy, that is not asking you to put in d-m-yy, d/m/yy, d-mm-yy, or any variation of the date other than dd/mm/yyyy. Learn to think for yourself.

Dear coworker,
A bit of common sense and there would be no need for you to call me over there. Why don't you actually think when asked a question before calling me over. You can do it, I know you can. Oh, and coworker, I have shown you how to do this twice now. Why don't you start fucking doing it!

I already need a drink...

I Am A: Lawful Good Human /Sorcerer (2nd/1st Level)

Ability Scores:

Strength-10

Dexterity-10

Constitution-14

Intelligence-14

Wisdom-15

Charisma-14

Alignment:
Lawful Good A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. He combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. He tells the truth, keeps his word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion. However, lawful good can be a dangerous alignment because it restricts freedom and criminalizes self-interest.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Primary Class:
Monks are versatile warriors skilled at fighting without weapons or armor. Good-aligned monks serve as protectors of the people, while evil monks make ideal spies and assassins. Though they don't cast spells, monks channel a subtle energy, called ki. This energy allows them to perform amazing feats, such as healing themselves, catching arrows in flight, and dodging blows with lightning speed. Their mundane and ki-based abilities grow with experience, granting them more power over themselves and their environment. Monks suffer unique penalties to their abilities if they wear armor, as doing so violates their rigid oath. A monk wearing armor loses their Wisdom and level based armor class bonuses, their movement speed, and their additional unarmed attacks per round.

Secondary Class:
Sorcerers are arcane spellcasters who manipulate magic energy with imagination and talent rather than studious discipline. They have no books, no mentors, no theories just raw power that they direct at will. Sorcerers know fewer spells than wizards do and acquire them more slowly, but they can cast individual spells more often and have no need to prepare their incantations ahead of time. Also unlike wizards, sorcerers cannot specialize in a school of magic. Since sorcerers gain their powers without undergoing the years of rigorous study that wizards go through, they have more time to learn fighting skills and are proficient with simple weapons. Charisma is very important for sorcerers; the higher their value in this ability, the higher the spell level they can cast.

Find out What Kind of Dungeons and Dragons Character Would You Be?, courtesy of Easydamus (e-mail)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Detailed Results:

Alignment:
Lawful Good ----- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (22)
Neutral Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (19)
Chaotic Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (20)
Lawful Neutral -- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (18)
True Neutral ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (15)
Chaotic Neutral - XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (16)
Lawful Evil ----- XXXXXXXXXX (10)
Neutral Evil ---- XXXXXXX (7)
Chaotic Evil ---- XXXXXXXX (8)

Law & Chaos:
Law ----- XXXXXXXXX (9)
Neutral - XXXXXX (6)
Chaos --- XXXXXXX (7)

Good & Evil:
Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXX (13)
Neutral - XXXXXXXXX (9)
Evil ---- X (1)

Race:
Human ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXX (13)
Dwarf ---- XXXXXX (6)
Elf ------ XXXXXXXX (8)
Gnome ---- XXXXXXXX (8)
Halfling - XXXXXXXXXX (10)
Half-Elf - XXXXXXXXXXXXX (13)
Half-Orc - XXXX (4)

Class:
Barbarian - (-21)
Bard ------ (-25)
Cleric ---- (-4)
Druid ----- (-17)
Fighter --- (0)
Monk ------ XXXX (4)
Paladin --- (-2)
Ranger ---- (0)
Rogue ----- (-6)
Sorcerer -- XXXX (4)
Wizard ---- XXXX (4)
Why, oh why, do people get pissed at me when I cannot solve problems that I have nothing to do with? I'm very sorry, lady, that your son is going to get kicked out of the halfway house today if he does not get a photo ID, but seriously? I work for the state employment agency, not the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. If you need an ID, you go see them, not me.

And to the gentleman who came in about 15 minutes later, I am very happy to hear that you are applying for the Census Bureau, but no, I don't know where they will be meeting. All I know is it is not here in this office. No, I don't have any way of finding out. Why don't you give them a call. No, I don't have there number. Why not? Perhaps because we are neither the Census Bureau nor are we Directory Assistance.

Please GTFO & DIAF,
Thanks.

yay!

I had a very good birthday weekend. Saturday, Bas and I (and TimTim) went over to our buddy Joes' house. Joe, Bas, and Tim tried to fix Basil's brakes. It didn't work. Jennifer and I escaped and went to a coffee shop and then to Hobby Lobby. We then gamed. I cooked chili and chicken pot pie for everyone. It seemed to be a hit.

Sunday, I slept in, and woke up to the sounds of TimTim cleaning. We went out to breakfast and to the flea market, went to the library, and to WalMart, where we picked up paint chips. I cooked a birthday feast, with lasagna, salad with homemade dressing, garlic bread, sliced apples, cheddar cheese, and red wine. We watched bad movies and listened to music.

Monday was chore day. Bas and I went to the house we offered for, and met with the home inspectors. We dropped Basil's car off at the shop, and TimTim and I went to half price books and sold a bunch of crap. Then we cleaned.

Yesterday, my mom came up and we went shopping, then to lunch, then more shopping. I got a whole lot of summer clothes that I was needing, and ordered a pair of shoes. The should arrive either late this week or early next week. I had such a good time. Basil's car was finished, so he and I picked it up, and met with the realitor, who told us that the termite inspection came back with a minor infestation. In other words, the house has termites. We are going to ask the seller to pay for them to be exterminated.

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes, I appreciated them. :)
